Christmas Crafts - Gift Guide
It’s that time of year again – Christmas is just around the corner! If you’re stuck for what presents to wrap up for your family and friends why not consider adding a personalised touch to this year’s gift list and craft some stuff yourself. Just a quick google or search on Pinterest brings tons of ideas, for a range of prices and abilities. Check out our top picks below.
Wooden coasters
Whether you’re feeling extra crafty or want an easy DIY gift idea, wooden coasters are the perfect personal touch for your family or friend’s home. You can pick up wooden slices for a reasonable price on the internet. Then all you need to decide is whether to leave them natural and varnish for protection, or if you’re going to add a wood dye first. For that rustic feel, pile the coasters up and tie some twine around to keep them together. You could also test your calligraphy skills and hand write a label tag to attach to the twine.
Mason Jar gifts
This trend has been around for a while now, but it’s still as strong as ever. With just a quick search you can find an endless list of ideas of what to put in your jars. You could layer ingredients for hot chocolate in a jar, perfect for a Christmas Eve treat (see below), make a homemade Christmas chutney or cranberry sauce and add to a mini hamper for a larger gift, or fill a large jar with pamper treats. Finish off with tying a ribbon around the top of the jar and adding a label detailing what’s in there.
Christmas Eve box
Have you got any children in the family still wrapped up in the magic of Christmas? This year Christmas Eve boxes are all the rage. What’s more they couldn’t be easier to craft yourself. Not only will it save you a bit of money, but you can add that special personalised touch too!
Firstly choose whether you want to use a wooden box with a lid, or perhaps a wooden crate. Either of these should be easy to pick up at your local craft shop or online. For a bargain why not have a search on Ebay first of all. Next, pick what colour stain you would like to use for your box. We’d recommend Dark Walnut for a really rich feel. Don’t forget to make a stencil or free-hand paint a personal message on to the box. Something like ‘Jack’s Christmas Eve box’ should do! Finally, finish off with a strong varnish to protect it for years to come.
Struggling for ideas of what to put in your Christmas Eve box? Why not add some new pyjamas, a Christmas DVD, hot chocolate, marshmallows, a new Christmas mug, slippers and cookies. The perfect collection for a special night in for your little one waiting for old saint Nick!
