Customer Spotlight - Wallgarden

Here at Littlefair’s we’re always keen to find out more about our customers. With such an eclectic mix across the board, you can lose yourself within each individual story. Take Wallgarden for starters – perhaps one of our most niche customers that create magical spaces for children.

We caught up with Nadine Charlton co-founder of Wallgarden for a little more insight into what they do and why they choose Littlefair’s as their wood stain and wax product of choice for their masterpieces.

A bit of background

Back in 2015 Nadine and her partner wanted to ignite the same passion they had for the outdoors in their daughter Rose. Inspired by Nadine’s father who built her a treehouse when she was a child, they decided to create a playhouse for Rose’s first birthday. With special thought to interiors and furnishings, the playhouse featured a selection of things to reflect the family home. Once others got wind of the miniature masterpiece they had created, and interest started to spark, the brainchild Wallgarden was born.

Wallgarden create bespoke playhouses

These days, Wallgarden create bespoke playhouses, inspirational gardens and children's furniture. The team handpicks each part of the project, sympathetic to: the local architecture; setting, family’s taste; as well as ensuring products are ethical and come from family businesses where possible.

Pick of the bunch

Wanting to choose a family run business that creates quality and ethically produced wood stain products certainly narrows down the competition. Nadine meticulously scoured the internet, researching the best fit for their company in terms of wood stain and waxes. They wanted a non-toxic wood dye, gentle enough to use for children’s products, but durable enough to sustain quality for their projects. It was important to be able to help blend old and new materials throughout the playhouses to gently enhance what was already there. After reading through Littlefair’s Wood Finishing Products' reviews, Nadine knew she had to try the products for herself.

After a quick trial of our wood stain and wax polish, the choice was made. All of Wallgarden’s playhouses have some element of Littlefair’s included. Our wood stains are carefully picked to blend well with each individual project, used on both interior and exterior wood. With a variety of colours to choose from, and each buildable to create a unique and exact colour match, Nadine and her team can sympathetically repair any items necessary and give them a new lease of life.

This project was finished using a mixture of Littlefair's Oak and Pine coloured water based wood dyes and our Antique Brown wax polish. We're so impressed with the outcome and proud that our products have contributed to such a wonderful project!

Projects

Thanks to the success of the playhouses, Wallgarden was invited to collaborate with multi-award winning designer, Chelsea Flower Show gold medallist and landscape architect, Sarah Eberle. This special project, for the 2017 Game Fair, saw a playhouse sitting within a bountiful children’s garden.

The company was also asked to create a showcase playhouse for the Waitrose Summer Festival. They chose to build a small-scale Georgian farmhouse, featuring tailored furniture inspired by the Hampshire landscape and the sporting pursuits of the Test Valley, where Wallgarden is based.

Looking ahead to the future, Wallgarden have exciting plans in the pipeline for 2018 which will also feature Littlefair’s products. Watch this space.
