Customer Spotlight: Caroline Cousin

Here at Littlefair’s Wood Finishing products we’re lucky to have such an eclectic mix of customers, from varying industries and walks of life. That’s just one of the reasons we love hearing from our customers, finding out what they are up to and how they are using our environmentally friendly wood dyes and varnishes.

Our latest spotlight features self-taught artist Caroline Cousin. Caroline has turned a passion for painting and glass making into a business.  Starting out as just a hobby when visiting a local studio to attend a glass making taster session, her interest grew from there. For the first few years Caroline worked out of the local studio she first attended the taster day in glass making. As her hobby grew into a business, she now has her own kiln installed in her garage at home; giving her more freedom with the projects she works on.

Below, we can see Caroline's fused glass flowers.  She has coated the base in our Sensual Soft White water based wood dye.

Caroline Cousin Glass Flowers Sensual Soft White Wood Stain

Caroline said “Glass making is very different from painting – it is more “hands on” and I enjoy this aspect of it.  I always enjoy experimenting with new techniques and new materials.  Glass can be cruel as you never know if your hours of work have been worth it, until you open the kiln.  There can be some spectacular failures!”

These exquisite pieces of art deserve to be shown off in a complementary manner. This is where our wood stain comes in to good use. Some of Caroline’s pieces are glass panels that need to be supported to display them. For this she uses solid wooden bases to sit the panel on to. After searching the internet for the perfect wood dye colour for a base to use with a recent project of wild flowers, she came across Littlefair’s pastel range and decided on our Sensual Soft White wood dye. Caroline said “I found the wood dye very easy to use and two coats gave a good amount of colour to the wood, but still allowed the grain to show through. This was the effect I was after! I am really pleased with the end result and I will be returning for more colours to use for future projects.”

Caroline Cousin Exhibition

Caroline has recently set up a small exhibition at a National Trust venue. Her work is now featured within Corzo & Wood at Claydon House in Buckinghamshire.
