Coverage

Approx. coverage of 8-10m² per litre, for one liberal coat.

A unique formula that both penetrates and coats bare, sanded wood. It can be applied as a light wash effect or, with further coats, to create a lovely soft pastel grey appearance.

Shades of Grey can be applied to all kinds of wooden surfaces from small craft items to large projects. The ingredients in the product allow it to be applied as a pale, transparent wash with more of the natural wood colour showing through - further coats will deepen the shade and create a more solid colour with a soft pastel, almost ‘chalky’ appearance. The stain can be diluted with water or mixed with our other colours.

Great product

Very easy to apply , just follow instructions and you can’t go wrong , gives a lovely driftwood finish that shows all the natural grain in the wood but still a modern grey finish , perfect for our bathroom window sill , I would recommend a good acrylic varnish to protect the stain which will take the finish to a new level , highly recommended

Lovely colour, easy to apply

I ordered the driftwood grey sample which came within a few days. Tested the colour and loved it.
I ordered the 2.5L to cover a 16m2 area in our dining room. It took one coat to get the look we wanted. So easy to apply and we used a third of the bottle.

We finished the look with 3 coats of the Matt clear varnish and it looks amazing. Again, ordered the 2.5L and have used just over half.

We are so happy with the finish, we'd definitely consider using these products again! I just hope it stands the test of time, but it's not a heavy traffic area, so we are hopeful it will look this good for a long time.

Classy Woodstains

These woodstains are very easy to use and give exceptional colour. They are truly a class apart from the unnatural, vivid yellows and sickly oranges you find in other brands. I ordered testers of Driftwood Sand, Antique Stripped Pine and Sun Kissed Oak and my only problem is that I love them all and cannot decide. I must emphasise just how classy the colours and finish are.

Lovely Product

Great product for decking, I mixed 2 colours together to get the grey i wanted.You can water it down too if you want more of a stain. Can put decking oil on top for protection. Definitely recommend.

Mixing Tips

• Pour half of the contents into a suitable container and replace the cap tightly

• Shake the bottle vigorously, ensuring that any settled ingredients are fully mixed in

• Pour the remainder into the suitable container and stir as one - stir often during use

Preparation

Careful, thorough preparation will result in a far superior finish.

Ensure your wood is as clean as possible and free from previous finishes. Do not apply the stain to wet surfaces. Well sanded wood will be far more receptive to the stain, and this will form the basis for a good quality finish. Avoid cleaning the wood with white spirit!

Some ingredients will settle at the bottom of the bottle. Please follow the mixing instructions before every use of the stain.

Application

Apply the stain liberally along the grain with a good quality brush - careful not to brush back and forth. Once applied, simply allow the stain to soak into the wood and dry completely. Avoid the temptation to brush it again at this stage. After approximately 2 hours, a further coat can be applied to increase the depth of colour as desired.

We recommend using protective gloves and splash goggles during use and simply wash out your brush with cold water afterwards.

Completion

The stained wood can be finished with a variety of finishing products depending on the desired result and location.

For Indoor Use

Our Clear Finish Wax Polish will provide a soft, silky feel – however, our Extra Strong Varnish would generally be the best option for enhancing and protecting the colour. Our grey stains do produce a reasonably tough surface without further finishing if you prefer the natural raw colour on areas that are not subject to wear and tear or moisture.

Note: Varnishes will always change the final appearance of a colour to some extent – however our matt varnishes will have a lesser effect on the colour.

It’s important to note that the final appearance will be a combination of the natural colour of your wood, the effect of the stain and the finishing product if used. With this in mind - always produce a test piece so you can properly judge the result.
